Hands On Training Track Descriptions

You will need to select one track for A.M. & one track for P.M.


Track 1: Bundles on the Boardwalk Bundles and Extended Stretches

Lead Instructors: Todd Edwards / Kevin McCart

Students will learn various hose bed loads and bundle combinations, these hose loads will assist students with learning how to stretch beyond the traditional 200' pre-connect. Students will stretch in a real life environment navigating various hose loads on the beautiful Carolina Beach Boardwalk.

Track 2: Mid Rise Mayhem Standpipe Operations

Lead Instructors: Steve Robertson / Clyde Gordon

Students attending this track will learn the different components associated with a stand-pipe system. Students will learn hose and appliance combinations that can be applied to various standpipe operations.

Track 3: Stretch & Flow: What You Need To Know

Instructor: Jonah Smith

This track will bring tactics, techniques, and information for the firefighter to ensure efficient engine operations in departments of all sizes. The track will deep dive into concepts that are normally brushed over quickly in engine courses. Look forward to walking away with a very different perspective operations.

Track 4: The Up's and Down's of Elevator Emergencies Elevator Rescue

Lead Instructor: Eddy Alarcon

This will be the follow up to the lecture presented by Capt. Alarcon. A Do's & Dont's of victim removal including a comrehensive review of elevator fire service operations. Students will utilize various working elevators around the conference location.

Track 5: Nuggets From the Right Seat

Lead Instructor: Shannon Stone

This four-hour session is designed to give experience proven advice on how a company level officer can strive, reach, and obtain excellence. It is instructed from the perspective of a “High Performer” and reviews critical practices for company officers such as: Building the Foundation, importance of understanding Followership and creating courageous followers, the 4 Levels of Expectations, the 3 Conditions of Leadership Influence and how to create effective influence, methods of effective leadership communication, critical Operational Leadership Practices for the company officer, understanding and implementing 3 Levels of Mentoring Accountability, building Communication Platforms with your bosses and other company officers, motivating and inspiring your firefighters, dealing with problem “employees”, dealing with average to sub- standard performing employees, common company officer situations the company officer will be faced with, and much more. This class is designed to give legitimate, time proven practices that the company officer can implement immediately and see instant results. All subjects discussed in this class have been originated from on the job trial and error and from this we have found many critical practices that actually work! Regardless if you work in a large or small department, from urban or suburban, company officers face the exact same challenges. This class will give you tons of “Nuggets” on how to deal with the many challenges you will face as a front line combat company officer.


Track 6: Know Your Flow

Lead Instructors: Elkhart and Key Hose Staff

This HOT Track will cover friction loss, flow characteristics of various hose and nozzle packages. Students will learn how to correctly pair attack packages from handlines to ground monitors.

(NO Gear Required - Please follow your departmental policies for handling charged hose lines)


Track 7: Forcible Entry

Lead Instructors: Don Clark, Cody Clark, Chris Clark

Students will learn forcible entry techniques on door props, window props, through the lock, and passive entry methods.
